Practical guidance for making your CV reflect the AI and technical work you’ve actually done.
AI tools can help you draft a CV, but they can also make many CVs sound alike. Hiring teams need to understand what you built, the decisions you made and the impact of your work.
Tailor it to the role. Bring the most relevant AI, software, data or engineering experience to the top. Use the job description to decide what deserves detail.
Show the work behind the tools. For production projects, explain the scope, technologies, your own contribution and the result. Include a measure where you have one.
Be precise about your experience. Make it clear whether you designed, built, deployed or maintained something, or whether you have only explored it.
Use AI as an editor. It can help with structure and clarity. Check every suggestion and never add skills or results you cannot substantiate.
Prepare to discuss each claim. At interview, be ready to explain your choices, trade-offs, challenges and what you would do differently.
Fictional example
Before: “Worked on an AI chatbot using Python and LLMs.”
After: “Built and deployed a Python-based support assistant using an LLM and retrieval from internal documentation; owned evaluation and monitoring, and reduced routine support queries by 18% over three months.”
The stronger version gives an interviewer something specific to explore. Only use figures and claims you can verify.
